In order to boost these alike traditional trades, several initiatives have been launched recently in the city of Fez. This includes the project of creating the craft village of Benjellik, which was introduced in 2004 with the aim of bringing together all the potter-zellige craftsmen of the city on a 27-hectare site. The project is designed to put an end to the polluting activities that threaten the lives of the local population, to improve the working conditions of craftsmen, as well as the quality of their production and to increase their income.
